Work on the Norman Trail - 2010

New London Conservation Commission trail master, Dan Allen, spent many days last winter and spring preparing the Clark Pond Trail System's Norman Trail and Allen Ski Loop for cross country skiing next winter. One of the problems often encountered doing the trail work was removing the tops of large rocks to big io move by hand. In this photo sequence Dan removes the top of such a rock on the Norman Trail using a small blssting charge...

Enlarging the hole for a small charge

Preparing for blast off

BOOM! The top of the rock is removed.

SUCCESS! This section of the trail is level enough to ski on in a few inches of snow.
