Preparations for Cricenti Bog Trail Work - April 10 2010

Volunteers braved an April Snowstorm to transport 28 new 14 foot sections of bog bridge to staging areas in the Philbrick-Cricenti Bog off Newport Road in New London. The Philbrick-Cricenti Bog is the most popular self-guided trail in the network maintained by New London Conservation Commission volunteers. The boardwalk sections were constructed and transported to the site by Bob Brown . Special thanks also go to Scott’s Yard Care employees for the generous donation of their time to help move and place the sections.

Volunteers are L-R  Evan Lakeman, Joe Thies, Bob Brown, Larry Nelson, Mitch Osteen, Chris Thulin, W. Michael Todd, Corey Johnson, and Town Recreation Director Chad Denning

Participants in the Merrimack County Diversion Program will place the new sections along the existing trail in the coming weeks.

This is an especially good time to visit the Bog, which is located on the left side of Newport Road, just past the Post Office.  After the Marsh Marigolds,  which  are  now blooming,  a great variety of  other  spring flowers greet the visitor. Every week produces new sights, so visit soon and visit often, and remember to thank our wonderful volunteers!
