Bog in the Winter - Although many of the birds that visit the bog have migrated south, chick-a-dees, nuthatches, and woodpeckers can still be heard. Sugars and starches have been withdrawn from the leaves of trees, but are being stored in preparation for the carefully timed opening of leaves and flowers in the spring. Galls are the resting place of insects and winter weeds furnish food for animals. Look for the tracks of squirrels and rabbits. Our bog is alive and well in the winter.
